Redfish buckle in Silver. Fits 1 1/4 belt
This buckle was carved using pictures of Florida, the bronze buckles are now being finished with a patina instead of a high polish. The patina will hold it's color as it ages. In effect, I'm pre-aging them. Each one comes out different but the colors are a mottled or consistent brownish with some green in the recesses, like old bronze sculptures. The silver buckles naturally change and develop a dark patina on the top and in the recesses and stay silver on the sides giving them a natural fish coloration.
Red Drum, the other name for redfish, usually occure along coastal waters. sometimes they can be found in the surf along the beach hunting for crabs. Three year-old red drum typically weigh six to eight pounds. The largest one on record weighed just over 94 pounds. When they are large they are called Bull reds and most people do not find the large ones good to eat. The redfish became famous when a New Orleans chef decided to spice up the bland flavor by blackening it with spices. They almost got fished to extinction before limits were set. Mature Redfish spawn in near shorelines. Juvenile redfish typically inhabit bays and coastal marshes until they reach maturity between 3 and 6 years of age. They will readily accept any bait but prefer Menhaden, Shrimp, Mud Minnows and crabs. they also like a gold spoon and a small lipped plug. Redfish are relatives of the Black Drum and both make a croaking sound when in trouble.
