Paynes Prairie Picnic Tree

Paynes Prairie Picnic Tree

It was a beautiful September day and I went to the park to paint and relax with a visiting relative. I completed a knife painting of the lake and the distant shore with a bush bowing over the water on my side of the lake. Later, I was sitting in the shade at the picnic table when the sun lit up the grass in front of me. I quickly grabbed the paint box and made a fast block in of the background and grass. I was struck by the beautiful contrast between the background trees in shadow and the the intense green of the grass in the direct sun light. The foreground tree trunk and it's shadow made a nice focal point to help finish the composition. This is an 8 x 10 acrylic on panel. More pictures on my website
